The first official BNL took place from May 6 to May 8 at the race track of Genk.
We had 32 Junior drivers at the start with 8 different nationalities, the sun was present so it promised that it would become an interesting race weekend.
On Friday we focused mainly on set-up the chassis, looked that we could be constant with the speed.
Saturday during the qualification Nick was able to set the 6th place, and at the first race he could benefit on that to move up to the 4th place, when fighting for the 3th place, the danger came from the back and Nick was pushed off track but could luckily recover the 9th place.
At race 2 Nick had not a very good start and lost positions, because he started too early driving too defensive he again lost the places he won. So Nick ended his race at the 12th place.
On Sunday we started very good in the warm-up, Nick was second fast at the track, we did some minor changes to the set-up but with the new tires we didn’t improve the speed, also ick had the unlucky situation that he had no perfect slipstream with the result ended with the 18th place. Just want to make the remark that the lap times were very close to each other.
From P18 in the race is always a huge risk, but it went well until the first chicane , there he was pushed of track and had to connect at the end of the field,… Nck was fighting very hard and was recovering the places he lost until he was kicked from the back by kart number 17 who caused a damage to Nick’s cooler , Nick tried to continue the race but because he was loosing cooling water he had to end his race earlier to save his engine,….
Once arrived at the Deams racing team tent, we started to check the engine chassis etc. Luckily Nick was cleaver to save his engine so the damage was limited to a broken cooler that could be replaced, so many thanks for that to Jan and his team who did a great job!
Because of the incident of the first race, Nick had to start from P28, he took a very good start and we found Nick back at P13! With his speed he was just flying through the field, his speed was very constant and he didn’t allow any mistake. It was incredible to see! Nick ended at P6, it is an improvement of 22 places in 1 race!
Event result P9, one of the fastest Juniors on the field, he made us all very proud!
Many thanks to Daems Racing Team! & Danny Kroes (personal coach)
Also thanks to Oswald for the pictures.
